The latest outbreak of the Hendra virus has tragically taken the life of a young Brisbane vet, killed at least five horses, and left the owner of the Redlands Veterinary Clinic with a financial & legal nightmare. Dr David Lovell will share his 'Hendra experience' with the Rural Press Club and joining him will be the world's leading authority on the Hendra virus, CSIRO virologist, Dr Linfa Wang. Dr Wang leads the scientific charge to understand how and why bats carry this virus and others also lethal to human such as SARS and Nipah, yet remain unaffected themselves. USA travel award offered in 2009
The Rural Press Club has decided to offer a new Excellence in Rural Journalism Award in 2009 with a trip to the United States on offer.
The winner will receive return airfare and registration to attend the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists World Congress to be held in Fort Worth, Texas from July 29 to August 5.
It will be open to print and electronic entries from club members. Watch for more details soon.
World farm leader in Canberra
The Australian Council of Agricultural Journalists is hosting a major international address on the global food and energy crisis in Canberra next month.
The new president of the International Federation of Agricultural Producers, Ajay Vashee of Zambia will be guest speaker at the special media and agribusiness event at the National Press Club on November 11.
The Queensland Rural Press Club is a member of the ACAJ, the national umbrella body.
